BOI in Thailand

BOI Lawyer in Thailand

Investment privileges have long been one of the various measures applied by the Thai Government to attract foreign investment to Thailand and to support the Governments goal of decentralising Thailands industrial base. One key investment incentive set up by the Board of Investment (BOI), the agency directly responsible for investment promotion, is tax and duty privileges for promoted projects.

Thailand BOI Promotion Activities

To consider whether the activity is eligible for BOI privileges, Thailand BOI has listed the activities in many categories. Please note that the same activities located in the different area are entitled to receive varying level of privileges.

The promoted activities are divided in seven categories as follows:

The BOIs Investment Promotion Scheme assists investors by offering:

relief from or reduction of import taxes/duties on both machinery and raw or essential materials

Also under the scheme, foreigners receiving BOI promotion together with their family members are allowed to undertake investment feasibility studies and to work on promoted projects.

In addition, any juristic person where more than forty percent of shareholders are aliens and which is granted a promotion certificate from the Board of Investment (BOI) is permitted to own land if approved by the BOI without any further investigation by the Land Department (according to Section 27 of the Investment Promotion Act B.E. 2520 of 1977).
